چکیده

To the Editor In an article entitled “Prognostic Significance of CXCL12 Expression in Patients With Colorectal Carcinoma,”1 we found that the authors may have inadvertently annotated CAM5.2 as cytokeratins (CKs) 8 and 18 by using a pair of square brackets to reference some reports, which might suggest that CAM5.2 is identical to CK8 and CK18. Becton Dickinson (BD) Biosciences revised the data sheet for CAM5.2 (BD 23-3190-01) in July 1997 that lists the primary reactivity as CK8 and, to a lesser extent, CK7. In addition, it shows no reactivity with CK18 or CK19.2-5 However, we can still find several current reports that improperly infer that CAM5.2 is the same as CK8/CK18. We want to comment that anticytokeratin CAM 5.2 reagent (BD), which is composed of the clone CAM5.2, reacts with human CK intermediate filament proteins of 48 kDa and 52 kDa, identified as CK7 and CK8, respectively.2-5 This letter can help to clarify the critical point that CAM5.2 is not identical to CK8 and CK18 and anticytokeratin CAM5.2 reagent does not stand for antibodies CK8 and CK18.2-9 Jeng-Dong Hsu, DDS, MS Departments of Pathology Chung-Chin Yao, MD, PhD Departments of Surgery Chung-Shan Medical University Hospital and School of Medicine, Chung Shan Medical University Taichung, Taiwan Lih-Wen Han Clinical Medicine Program Peking University Health Science Center Beijing, People’s Republic of China Chih-Ping Han, MD, PhD Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Clinical Trial Center Chung-Shan Medical University Hospital and Institute of Medicine Chung-Shan Medical University Taichung, Taiwan

Anticytokeratin (CAM5.2) reagent identifies cytokeratins 7 and 8, not cytokeratin 18.

prior walks, then one would expect less of a difference between the fast and far walks when the far test was performed fi rst. To further test this hypothesis, we revisited the order sequence of the far and the fast walks and identifi ed those who performed the fast test fi rst (n 5 8) or the far test fi rst (n 5 6) and then evaluated the difference between the fast and the far walks for the in...

Keratin subtypes in carcinomas of the uterine cervix: implications for histogenesis and differential diagnosis.

Normal epithelia and carcinomas of the human uterine cervix were studied by monoclonal antibodies chain specific for cytokeratins 4, 8, 10, 13, 14, 18, and 19. Most cells in 13 examined squamous carcinomas revealed a cytokeratin phenotype detected in ectocervical basal cells and endocervical subcolumnar reserve cells: 8+, 14+, 18+, 19+, 4-, 10-, 13-. We propose that these two cell types are clo...

Ovarian cystic tumor composed of Brenner tumor and struma ovarii.

Ovarian tumor composed only of Brenner tumor and struma ovarii is very rare; only 6 cases have been reported in the English literature, to the best of the author's knowledge. A 66-year-old woman underwent right oophorectomy because of torsion of right ovarian cyst. Macroscopically, the ovarian cyst was hemorrhagic and red. Cystic content was hemorrhagic fluid. Microscopically, the cyst walls we...

Expression of simple epithelial type cytokeratins in stratified epithelia as detected by immunolocalization and hybridization in situ

Multi-layered ("stratified") epithelia differ from one-layered ("simple") polar epithelia by various architectural and functional properties as well as by their cytoskeletal complements, notably a set of cytokeratins characteristic of stratified tissue. The simple epithelial cytokeratins 8 and 18 have so far not been detected in any stratified epithelium. Using specific monoclonal antibodies we...
